Why safety tech isn’t stopping accidents

On Behalf of | May 6, 2025 | Personal Injury

Safety technology has certainly been improving in modern vehicles. Today, there are many devices designed to help prevent accidents. For instance, a new vehicle could have a blind spot monitoring system. If there is a car sitting in the driver’s blind spot, a small light illuminates on their side mirror to let them know there is a vehicle there that they may not be able to see.

This is just one example, but there are many other types of safety tech: adaptive cruise control, automatic braking, backup cameras and more. But despite all these developments, car accidents continue to happen. Why isn’t the safety tech working and preventing these crashes?

The problem lies with the drivers

The issue is that drivers are still making mistakes and causing accidents. Most car accidents happen due to driver error, and that can still occur even with advanced safety technology.

In fact, it may be increasing complacency. Drivers feel safer because of the tech in their vehicles, so they are more likely to make mistakes. They also take more risks. A driver may know that it is dangerous and distracting to text while driving, but they may still do it if they believe that the safety tech in their vehicle will prevent a crash.

Unfortunately, this just massively increases the odds of an accident. Even with tech, the best safety feature is an attentive driver.

Seeking compensation

Have you been injured in a car accident caused by another driver? If so, be sure you know how to seek financial compensation for your injuries and other costs.
